Today, the White House is holding a summit on women’s issues called the United State of Women. Maybe you’ve heard of it, attended, or joined the #stateofwomen online. All of us can take two minutes to watch the summit’s powerful two-minute film:
Topics addressed at the summit, as well as its ongoing online resources, include the following:
- economic empowerment
- health & wellness
- educational opportunity
- violence against women
- entrepreneurship & innovation
- leadership & civic engagement
I wonder: What are you doing to address one or more those topics, to build up the women around you in these areas? What could you be doing? What is the Church doing and what could it be doing?
As Michelle Obama put it in the Summit’s film, “we stand stronger when we stand together.”
Or, as the Book of Ecclesiastes puts it, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:12).
